The knife

If you've been tracking, dear reader, you know I am a practicioner of the "art of the blade" - the misnomer "knife fighting", or as I prefer "knife combatives".
People, often as not, react badly to knives. A knife is very visceral, anything that cuts is, because we've got thousands of years of "biological memory" to tell us that being cut, by lions claws, teeth, stone blades, or steel, sucks. This doesnt happen with the gun, not yet. With both knives and guns though most people dont get it. I cant explain to those who wont listen, because none of you are tuned in. When you decide your life is worth protecting, and when you truly understand what it is to preserve life, maybe you will listen. Until then, I dismiss you to live in your fearful little caves of ignorance... I am not your shepard.
I cant (yet) carry a gun, but in the interest of better living through not getting killed, I carry a knife (more than one, actually, as part of a layered carry profile, including other tools). I would say that while I am far from the master of the knife, I have a degree of knowing about the knife - and like others who do I respect it, but do not fear it for itself alone (I fear intent to kill me, with anything, when presented with it - but the tool matters not).
From this point of view I see that even those who "know the knife" misunderstand it sometimes.
A cut, a wound from steel, is a powerful thing. One little cut can make men drop everything and panic. But is can also mean absolutely nothing.
If you are faced with a 17 year old kid out for a thrill, steal some dudes wallet, and you cut him good, he might turn tail and run. But, take the same 17 year old, dump a pharmacists bad dream of drugs into him, and either get him when he's high or coming down and needs more, and you have a monster - one cut will not stop him, and it is very possible he may not even feel it.
I think it is a mistake to say, to believe, that the knife is a tool that crosses all levels of force escalation from less-lethal to lethal, and back again. When used in a conflict the edged weapon is a lethal tool, just like a gun. You draw it and you use it to stop an attacker.
The end of an attack, without any death, is wonderful and should be a celebrated thing. But to make that the one and only acceptable goal is foolish, and dangerous to yourself... it should be an incidental positive, not THE goal.
The art, the dance, the right hand path of the blade are all fine, and beautiful (even while deadly) things. But you find me a street thug who walks the right hand path... there aint one. Its not in his job description, he cant make a career as a thug on that path. I speak of the left-hand path, the back-alley knife mans traditions of speed, brutality, deception and trickery, applied to "better living through not getting killed"/defense of ones life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Out thugging the thugs, so we can go home at night, is the play.
You cannot confuse the two, it can be deadly. In the streets, the gutters, the alleyways filled with piss, blood, beer, and cum, there are no right-hand artisans, only left hand killers.

Cant settle this...

http://www.zombietime.com/hall_of_shame/

I am a firm believer that while I may not like what you have to say, I will defend to the death your right to say it.
But the sheer level of ignorance, hypocrisy and pure sickness displayed by many of the individuals in the above link is staggering.
For example the asshole-twins sporting the "Support Resistance In Iraq" sign, or their funny uncle with the "I *heart* NY Even More Without The World Trade Center" sign. Something tells me that if they had family or friends who had died on 9/11, they would be singing a different tune. But, instead, from their positions of comfort and affluence (and yes, you mother fuckers, you are affluent, especially compared to an Iraqi, or even a US Service Woman/Man), they choose to exploit the pain and suffering of thousands of others for their own ends. It is not only sick, it is cruel.
Or how about the one with the "Death To America" sign? For professing such hatful wishes against their country, you would think they didnt enjoy the simple freedoms guaranteed by the constitution of this fine republic, but they do. In one of their beloved middle eastern countries, if they directed their criticism towards that government, they would be lucky to walk away with their hands cut off, if they walked away at all. But yes, America is a terrible tyrant, it is oppressive and destructive, and we must all hate America - while we walk on its soil and use our freedoms, as protected by America, to spew our hatred. Hypocrits, at the least. Such ignorance, such disgusting ignorance.
Then we have the countless people using the cover of protest to defend and spread their anti-semetic message. On one hand they will call everyone who disagrees with them a nazi, and on the other they will call for the destruction of the Jewish state and spew racism. I am not the biggest fan of Israel these days, but I am not a fan of Palestine by any means... and Nazi rhetoric is nazi rhetoric, no matter which "flavor of the week" its taken on now.
Perhaps lowest on my list would be those supporting the terrorists. They are fools, sick, ignorant, stupid fools. I hope, for their sake, they never see the fruits of their efforts. But it would only be too fitting, in that lovely way that karmic violence always is, for them to be on the reveiving end of some Islamic terrorists loving attentions, perhaps a block of semtex wrapped in ball bearings and nails. Would they then understand the nature of terrorism? Would they then care for their own country?
I have a message for the people who would do these things - I will defend your right to say it, I will defend to the death your right, as Americans, to free speech, because I believe in that. That is the height of kindness as far as I am concerned, that for you ingrateful, disrespectful, hateful people, I will fight for your freedom, and if called for as it once was, not so long ago, I would lay down my life for your freedom. I am a better person than any of you for that - a far, far, better person. And I hope that pisses you off, I hope that makes you angry - but I will never change. Because I am a true American. I have no respect for you people, who would defame your own freedom and encourange the enemies of our country, nor have I gratitude or affections - but for freedom I have all these things, and I always will.
Let that forever stand as my very loud, very proud, "Fuck You" to all of you.
And if thats not good enough... just give me a chance, and I'll bust you in the mouth. I wont take your sign, I wont shut you up, but I will gladly loosen a few of your teeth, simply because I dont like you.

No Knocking America

No knock, no knock,
No knock warrants
They all have no knock warrants
and they all have your name on them…

No knock, no question,
No prayer, When you hear
Their standard issue
crashing through your door
Dark and Twenty minutes till four
No birds sing and you’re on the floor

Dissent or depravity
poverty or pederasty
No knock, no care
No drink of water, no time to scream
as they cut down your daughter

Flash bang freedom
in gunslinger hallway
Death in the kitchen
Bullets over bitchin’
And their no knocking,
no knocking,
knocking down your door

This figures

I knew it wouldnt be long before the Feds wanted to sink their greedy claws into the new prospects of commercial space travel.
Their involvement is sure to retard this process by years, if not decades. Licensing, taxation, regulation - all of it is a means for one of two things, or both, Control and Greed.
They are not happy to have anyone doing anything, especially something that can be potentially taxed and/or sold license to, without their say-so. Federal regulations are notoriously dated, usually being several years behind current technology and safety standards, and thus seriously limiting what they are regulating in its abilities to advance and to provide to the general public. If you doubt me look at the difference between the medications available here in the good ol' USA and in Europe. I hate to use Europe as an example, because too many people want to turn our uniquely American approach to culture and politics to a European one, which I must say is fairly wrong on many levels - but they have many drugs, good drugs, available there, which the FDA has tied up for years in regulated (theres that word again) testing.
The FAA will do the same to the privatization of space travel.
Perhaps even the vindictive elements within the government will make damn sure of this, because they refuse to admit their own failures with NASA, and will not be shown up by some "lowly private citizen".
Disgusting.

The government needs to learn to keep their noses, and hands, out of peoples business. We dont need any more minders than we already have. Bastards.

A Good Man...

This is a good man...

Now You Learn (All Silent Still...)

The silence of the spaces
the pain of all these places
between words and hurts
and now you learn…

The burned hand teaches best
but what about all the rest
and I never could stand the silence
and I never could stand the sound…

The word in the book
the story in one hurt look
cold wind blows across
and fans the ember fires…

Burned hands
and learned hands
now you learn
and its all silent still…
